Box of Broadcasts (BoB) – service ‘at risk’ Thursday 27 March

In order to correct a problem affecting the BBC Archive link in the off-air recording and streaming service Box of Broadcasts, the BoB team will be carrying out maintenance tasks throughout Thursday 27 March 2014.

Although the work may be completed in a relatively short period of time, the service should be considered ‘at risk’ for the entire day.

BoB will display a message on the BUFVC homepage, and send out updates on its Twitter feed (@bufvc_bob) as work progresses.

Digimap: access extended to include the Environment collection

The library’s subscription to the Digimap service has now been extended to include the Environment collection (which joins the existing subscription to the Ordnance Survey, Historic, Geology and Discover services of Digimap). Access to this additional collection is initially available until the end of July 2014.

Environment Digimap offers two facilities: mapping and data download. The data available is raster and provides a snapshot of land cover for each of the years 1990, 2000 and 2007. Each data set is available at 25m and 1km resolutions. The exception to this is a vector version of the 2000 data set. The data are available in a range of formats depending on the year. Find out more on the Digimap site:

Individual collections (and sets of collections) within Digimap require a separate registration process prior to access. As this registration process can take several working days, access to collections is not immediate on the first visit, but will become available as the registration is accepted.
