MIMAS – service problems

Service problems on the mimas.ac.uk domain mean that access to the following services may be currently unavailable, or only intermittently available:

  • Census Dissemination Unit
  • COPAC
  • Jorum
  • Zetoc

Access to the Web of Knowledge service was briefly interrupted earlier today, but has now been re-instated. A further update will be provided once MIMAS has confirmed that the service problems have been resolved.

Linguistics Abstracts Online – access restored

Access to Linguistics Abstracts Online has been re-enabled in eSearch, following an extended interruption of access caused by technical issues which followed the merger of Wiley and Blackwell. Access is direct on-campus, and by university username and password (using the Shibboleth framework) off-campus. LAO has been enabled as an SFX ‘source’ (so it is possible to send bibliographic data direct from LAO to the ‘Find It @ NTU’ service), though at present the link to SFX is provided through a ‘SFX OpenURL’ text link rather than through the ‘Find It @ NTU’ button (see illustration below). LAO’s technicians are working to reinstate the ‘Find It @ NTU’ button on the service shortly.

Free-to-access electronic journals – collection extended

Following a major expansion of the SFX (Find it @ NTU) Knowledge Base earlier this month, a total of 16,734 new free-to-access electronic journals have been activated in SFX in the ‘Free e-journals’ target. There is some overlap of titles between this collection and some of the other free-to-access collections (such as DOAJ, Scielo and others), but the full list of 23,971 titles in the collection can be accessed here. Individual catalogue records for the new additions to the collection will be added to the Library Catalogue during the next electronic journal record update.

Science Direct – Shibboleth authenticated access enabled

Off-campus access to all of LLR’s subscribed materials on the Science Direct platform is now by university username and password (using Shibboleth). Links and prompts in eSearch and SFX have been updated accordingly. A guide to using Shibboleth authentication for Science Direct has been added to the eServices Support wiki. The remote and MetaSearch configuration for Science Direct in eSearch has also recently been updated.

Shibboleth – new resource migrations

Following an intensive period of configuration work, Shibboleth authentication has been enabled for a large number of additional resources. Links and prompts in eSearch and SFX have been updated accordingly. A detailed guide to using Shibboleth on each of the affected resources has been added to the eServices support wiki.

The resources now requiring a university username and password (Shibboleth) for off-campus access are as follows:

  • CSA Illumina
    • ANTE: Abstracts in New Technologies and Engineering
    • ARTBiliographies Modern
    • ASSIA: Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts
    • Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
    • BHI: British Humanities Index
    • Criminal Justice Abstracts
    • DAAI: Design and Applied Arts Index
    • ERIC
    • Polymer Library
    • Social Services Abstracts
    • Sociological Abstracts
  • EBSCOhost
    • Abstracts in Social Gerontology
    • Academic Search Elite
    • Business Source Premier
    • EconLit
    • International Bibliography of the Social Sciences
    • Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts
    • PsycARTICLES
    • PsycINFO
    • Regional Business News
    • Research Starters – Business
    • Research Starters – Education
    • SPORTDiscus
    • Textile Technology Index
    • Violence & Abuse Abstracts
  • LexisNexis Butterworths (On-campus and off-campus)
  • NexisUK
  • Westlaw

For all of these resources, Athens authenticated access will continue to be available for the time being, in parallel with Shibboleth-based authentication – although LLR will be promoting Shibboleth access (“Using your university username and password”) in preference to Athens.

Academia Portal: Athens authentication issue

The eServices team is working with NBS to resolve an issue which is currently affecting the Athens login to the Academia Portal service. Access to the service may be unavailable for the remainder of the afternoon (Monday 2 March), but should be restored by opening of business tomorrow (Tuesday 3 March). eServices will confirm when access has been fully restored.
