New resource: Elsevier Science Direct: Economics eHandbooks

A set of 27 economics eHandbooks is now available on the Elsevier Science Direct platform. As with ejournal material on the same platform, access is direct on-campus and by Athens username and password off-campus. LLR would normally expect to receive catalogue records for eBook material direct from the provider. In this case, Elsevier indicate that MARC records for these (and other) titles are not expected to be ready before the end of the calendar year. As a result, the Cataloguing Team will add produce local catalogue records for each of these 27 titles before the start of the next term. There is also no direct ‘deep link’ to the eHandbooks, but the titles can be easily located through the Browse facility on the Science Direct platform when applying the settings indicated in the illustration below.

Elsevier Science Direct - Browse facility

Synergy Blackwell migration to Wiley InterScience

The Synergy Blackwell platform was withdrawn from service as scheduled at the end of last week, and all content migrated to the Wiley InterScience platform. All links to Synergy ejournal content (including SFX links) will automatically redirect to the new platform – but these will only resolve to the Wiley InterScience homepage, rather than direct to the individual ejournal title. From the homepage, it will be necessary to a ‘Publications title’ search for the required journal. (SFX links will be updated to link directly to Wiley InterScience shortly).

British Standards Online – standards search unavailable

eServices is working with IHS and BSOL to re-establish access to the standards search services within the British Standards Online platform, which is currently unavailable. It is hoped that a resolution for this problem will be available shortly. In the meantime, a prompt has been added to the information icon in eSearch for British Standards indicating that access to the search facility is not available at present.

New resource: The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics Online

Access to the New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics Online has been enabled in eSearch. Access is direct on-campus; off-campus access should be available shortly. The resource is described as follows:

The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics, 2nd edition, edited by Steven N. Durlauf and Lawrence E. Blume, contains over 1,850 articles by more than 1,500 of the world’s leading economists.

As with all new electronic subscriptions, this resource can be added to any eSearch Sub-Category at the ALT’s request.

eBrary – extra prompts to download the reader for off-campus customers

Following recent feedback, additional prompts for off-campus customers using the eBrary service have been added to the eBrary interface, indicating the need for them to download the eBrary Reader software (see illustration below). Clicking on that link will launch a new window from which the software can be downloaded.

Additional links and texts prompts have also been added to the information icon for eBrary in eSearch (see below).

Only customers coming from off-campus will need to install the eBrary reader, which should automatically be installed on any on-campus PC. If you discover any instances on-campus where the software appears to be missing, please report the location and machine name to the eServices team.
