Land, Life and Leisure – new interface launched
The Land, Life and Leisure service has launched a new interface this week. Improvements are restricted to the look-and-feel of the site and do not involve any functional changes.
Census Registration Service – Shibboleth authentication active
The Census Registration Service manages the registration process controlling authorised access to a number of resources and collections including:
* Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research (CCSR) (for the Samples of Anonymised Records (SARs), 1991-2001).
* Census Dissemination Unit (CDU) (at Mimas for the aggregate outputs and related geographical datasets, 1971-2001).
* Centre for Interaction Data Estimation and Research (CIDER) (for origin-destination statistics, 1981-2001).
* UKBORDERS (at Edina for digitised boundary datasets, 1971-2001).
Registration to make use of these services will also provide access to Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) and ESDS International through the UK Data Archive.
Authentication for on-campus and off-campus customers wanting to register to use these services is now available through the Shibboleth framework, and links to the relevant databases have been updated in eSearch.
It is possible for customers with an existing Athens-based registration to transfer their registration to the new Shibboleth authentication system. Details of this process and a walkthrough guide are provided in the relevant section of the eServices Support wiki.
Land, Life and Leisure: access problems resolved
Hardware problems which have caused recurrent breaks in access to the Land, Life and Leisure service over the past few days are now reported as resolved by EDINA. Access is once again available through eSearch.
Resource unavailable: Land, Life and Leisure
EDINA reported this morning that the Land, Life and Leisure database is currently unavailable due to recurring hardware problems. A further update will be provided once access to the service has been restored.

Hardware problems have affected access to the EDINA hosted Land, Life and Leisure service over the past few days, with access temporarily suspended at times. Access has now been restored.

Following a hardware failure at the host site, Land, Life & Leisure is now back in service.

Following a hardware failure, EDINA advise that the Land, Life & Leisure service will be temporarily unavailable. EDINA are working to restore access as soon as possible – though a return of service may not be in place until next week. The login buttons on the LL&L interface have been suspended and an out-of-service alert posted.
Land, Life and Leisure – access restored
Access to the Land, Life and Leisure service was restored by EDINA overnight and the database is now working normally.
Land, Life and Leisure service unavailable
EDINA report that the Land, Life and Leisure database is currently unavailable. A note to this effect has been added to the LLL login page at EDINA. EDINA will update once access to the service has been reinstated.
