Access to the Art and Architecture Archive (1896-2000) has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Provided through the ProQuest platform, access to the resource is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

A full-text archive of magazines covering the fields of art and architecture, dating from the late-nineteenth century to the twenty-first. Subjects covered include fine art, decorative arts, architecture, interior design, industrial design, and photography. New resource: Trench Journals and Unit Magazines of the First World War

Access to the Trench Journals and Unit Magazines of the First World War collection (1914-1919) has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Provided through the ProQuest platform, access to the resource is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

An archive containing an extensive collection of rare magazines by and for servicemen and women of all nations during the First World War. Over 1500 periodicals written and illustrated by serving members of the armed forces and associated welfare organisations (sourced from leading archives around the world including those of the Imperial War Museums and The British Library) published between 1914 and the end of 1919 are included. Magazines have been scanned cover-to-cover, in full colour or greyscale. The full-text of these publications is fully searchable.

Estates Gazette Interactive (EGi) registration details updated

The registration details for new Estates Gazette Interactive (EGi) accounts have been updated on the secure ‘Other Passwords’ page of the library web site. Existing registrations will continue to work normally; but new staff and student accounts can now be created by using these updated links and instructions. The previous registration credentials had been expired by EGi and new registrations were no longer being accepted.

Subscription access to JoVE (Journal of Visualized Experiments) extended

The range of subscription collections accessible through the JoVE (Journal of Visualized Experiments) platform has been extended. In addition to the collections originally enabled in early November, access is now available for the JoVE Biology, JoVE Neuroscience, JoVE Clinical and Translation Medicine collections, and, within the JoVE Science Education collection, to the General Laboratory Techniques and Basic Methods in Cellular and Molecular Biology sub-collections.

The listing for JoVE in the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch has been updated to reflect this extension of access, and the new journal titles have been activated in SFX.

Access to JoVE remains direct on-campus, and by university username and password from off-campus. The complete list of collections available through the library’s JoVE subscription is as follows:

WildPro – access details updated

The access URL for the free-to-use WildPro service has been updated in Library OneSearch. The new URL is immediately available in the Find Databases service and will be reflected in the main search record for WildPro shortly. Access to the service remains unrestricted on-campus and off-campus.

The resource is described as follows:

Information on captive and free-ranging wild animals from the Wildlife Information Network. Modules contain data on individual species, chemicals & physical factors which cause environmental and/or health issues, diseases, best practice guidelines and habitat information. Includes a number of full-text books.

GMID: off-campus access currently unavailable

Off-campus access to the GMID (Global Market Information Database) service is currently unavailable, due to technical problems affecting the GMID platform. On-campus access is unaffected. A number of university library services (relying on university username and password access to GMID for off-campus access) are reporting similar problems. A note alerting customers to the issue has been added to the GMID record in the ‘Find Databases’ section of Library OneSearch. A further update will follow once the GMID technical team has confirmed that Shibboleth-enabled access is working normally once more.

New resource: JoVE (Journal of Visualized Experiments)

Access to JoVE (the Journal of Visualized Experiments) has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Access is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

JoVE, the Journal of Visualized Experiments, is the world’s first peer reviewed scientific video journal devoted to publishing scientific research in a visual format. All JoVE articles are indexed in subject-relevant indexing sites, including PubMed/MEDLINE, SciFinder and Scopus.

Publishing in JoVE allows authors to dynamically present their methods, data analyses and results clearly, accurately, and professionally with the guidance of JoVE’s professional videographers and editors.

Access to the four subscribed video journal titles has also been enabled in SFX.

Video content on the JoVE platform is delivered in both HTML5 and Adobe Flash compatible formats (and the site auto-recognises and delivers the correct format for the requesting browser). All version of Flash greater than v10 are currently (November 2014) supported.

Video content that is *outside* the LLR subscription range comes with a 20-second ‘taster’ preview. Each video screen clearly indicates whether the requested video is inside or outside of LLR’s subscription range.

UK Press Online – off-campus access problems resolved

Technical problems which were preventing off-campus authenticated access to the UK Press Online service have now been resolved. Off-campus access to the service is available once again via university username and password.

PsycTESTS now available through the ProQuest platform

Further to the platform changes affecting the PsycARTICLES and PsycINFO services announced at the end of last month access to the PsycTESTS service is now available through the ProQuest platform, and is no longer provided through EBSCOhost. Access is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. Access information in the Library OneSearch ‘Find Databases’ service has been updated accordingly.

Oxford Handbooks Online – individual eBook records discoverable in Library OneSearch

Now that the library is able to provide persistent deep-links to individual titles in the Oxford Handbooks Online collection which work from both on-campus and off-campus locations, individual catalogue records for each of the 244 subscribed titles have been made available in Library OneSearch. New resource: British Film Institute (BFI) InView

Access to the new streaming audio-visual service BFI InView has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Access to the service is by university username and password. The resource is described as follows:

The British Film Institute’s (BFI) InView service offers one thousand hours of non-fiction audiovisual material which documents Britain’s changing political, economic and social landscape in the age of film and television. As well as being full-searchable, the contents of BFI InView can also be browsed by Theme (such as Education or Law and Order) or Collection (such as Early Film or Government Film). Eight thousand pages of related documents are also viewable. Video material can be viewed online or downloaded for educational use.
