RefWorks – OPAC searches now up to date

A configuration setting which was preventing searches of the Library Catalogue from RefWorks from returning the most recently indexed records has now been corrected. Searches of the OPAC from RefWorks now return records as soon as they are indexed by ALEPH.

eSearch – Thursday 15 November 2007: busiest day to date

Thursday 15 November 2007 was the busiest single day for eSearch since the application was launched in January 2005. More than 2,000 separate sessions were recorded during the course of the day. A session is launched each time a customer accesses eSearch and is kept alive until the customer logs out or until there is five minutes continuous inactivity. Since the withdrawal of the subject portal and the A-Z database and ejournal lists from the LLR web site (an important component of the implementation of the LLR Resource Discovery Strategy) numbers of weekday daily eSearch sessions are regularly in excess of 1300.

ALEPH – problem with remote searches resolved

eServices is investigating the cause of problem which shut down the z3950 server on ALEPH just after 4.30pm yesterday afternoon.

A consequence of the shutdown was that from that time SFX was unable to check the Library Catalogue for holdings information – so SFX menus were reporting that no ISSNs or ISBNs were being matched against print catalogue records. Another consequence of the closure was that searches of the library catalogue from RefWorks were unavailable. (eSearch searches of the catalogue were unaffected.)

The server has now been restarted and both SFX and RefWorks services have been confirmed as connecting to ALEPH successfully.

eServices is now in discussion with both IS and Ex Libris to isolate the cause of this issue.

Westlaw – scheduled downtime 10-12 November

The following prompt has been added to the information screen in eSearch for the Westlaw service, drawing customers’ attention to a scheduled downtime period:

Due to a systems upgrade, the Westlaw service will now be unavailable between 6pm Saturday 10 November and 6am Monday 12 November 2007.
