Withdrawal of temporarily available online resources

DURING THE FIRST months of the Covid-19 campus closure, the library was able to provide access to a large number of additional database resources to support learning, teaching and research activities. These resources were a combination of short-term subscriptions and materials made temporarily available under licence by publishers.

Over recent weeks, the majority of these temporary arrangements have concluded. As a result, the following resources have been removed from the Find Databases service.

  • Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy
  • Annual Reviews
  • Bates’ Visual Guide to Physical Examination
  • Berghahn Journals
  • Bloomsbury Architecture Library
  • Bloomsbury Education and Childhood Studies
  • Bloomsbury Medieval Studies
  • Cambridge University Press – Cambridge Core
  • Drama Online
  • eBook Academic Collection
  • eBook Harvard Business Publishing Collection
  • LWW Health Library
  • Law Trove – Oxford University Press
  • Manchester Hive (MUP eBook collections)
  • Project Muse
  • SAGE Knowledge
  • SAGE Research Methods Video
  • SAGE Video
  • Screen Studies
  • University of California Press Journals

The library is in the process of subscribing to a wide range of additional online resources, and details of these new collections will be made available through this blog.

Dawsonera content migrates to the VLeBooks platform

FOLLOWING THE CLOSURE of the Dawsonera eBook platform, access to the library’s full-text eBook content previously accessed through Dawsonera has been moved to the VLeBooks platform.

This migration has required the update of multiple thousands of authentication-aware access links in different library discovery systems.

The majority of that work has now been completed, and eBook records in Library OneSearch and Library OneSearch Pro, and eBook and Chapter records in the Resource List Management System, all now automatically direct the request for ex-Dawsonera content to the VLeBooks platform.

These new links resolve directly to the requested book (rather than to the home page of VLeBooks), and are all authentication-aware, routing the requester through the sign-in process (via university username and password) as required.

The remaining remedial work on links to Dawsonera content in the online library environment will be completed later this month.

Secure proxy access problems

THE LIBRARY IS working with colleagues in Digital Technologies to resolve a problem that is preventing access requests to electronic resources that use the ‘secure proxy service’ from resolving correctly.

The issue is affecting database, eBook and ejournal access requests which rely on this method of authentication.

For those resources impacted by the issue, requests resolve to a generic login screen displaying the OCLC logo (see below).

A further update will follow once normal access has been restored.
