New resource: Education Abstracts

Produced by H. W. Wilson, access to the Education Abstracts database is now available on the EBSCOhost platform through Library OneSearch. Access is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

Provides access to indexes and abstracts from more than 680 periodicals and books related to all aspects of education, including: adult education, comparative education, government funding, higher education, school administration and teacher evaluation.

British Education Index now accessible through the EBSCOhost platform

The British Education Index (BEI) which was previously accessed through the ProQuest platform is now available through the EBSCOhost service. All links and metadata, including category/subject assignments, have been updated in Library OneSearch to reflect this change. Access to BEI is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.

PsycARTICLES now accessible through the ProQuest platform

The PsycARTICLES full-text database previously accessed through the EBSCOhost platform is now available through the ProQuest interface. Links and all related metadata have been updated in Library OneSearch, including the transfer of the previous category/subjects assignments. Access remains direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. Remote searching (metasearching) of the PsycARTICLES service has also been enabled in LOS.

Listings in SFX for all full-text PsycARTICLES’ journals have been migrated to integrate with the new ProQuest platform.

EBSCOhost – move from Shibboleth to secure proxy access from off-campus

Problems affecting off-campus access to databases on the EBSCOhost platform have been resulting in error messages for staff and students logging in using their university username and password in the native EBSCOhost interface.

While investigations into the cause of the problem continue, all off-campus login requests to EBSCOhost databases have been moved from Shibboleth to secure proxy authentication. LLR customers will continue to login to EBSCOhost using their university username and password, so the switchover will be all-but invisible to those accessing EBSCOhost resources through SFX and Library OneSearch. However, because proxy linking is a special form of authentication, login requests from off-campus customers accessing EBSCOhost outside the library’s resource discovery environment (for example, through a Google search) will continue to experience login problems. The advice to such customers is to access EBSCOhost content through LOS and SFX, where their login requests can be routed correctly.

Once the technical issues have been satisfactorily resolved, off-campus authentication for EBSCOhost resources will be returned to the Shibboleth framework.

From Academic Search Elite to Academic Search Complete

Following the upgrade of LLR’s subscription to the EBSCOhost database from Academic Search Elite to Academic Search Complete, configurations for the resource have been updated in Library OneSearch and SFX.

All Category and Sub-Category assignments from ASE have been recreated and reassigned to ASC; and Academic Search Complete is remote searchable in Library OneSearch.

All entries for full-text titles in the Academic Search Elite collection have been withdrawn in SFX; and all full-text titles in Academic Search Complete activated. The additional titles in the ASC collection can immediately be discovered through SFX requests. Individual title level records for these additional full-text journals will be added to the main Library OneSearch index shortly.

EBSCOhost – journal linking issue resolved

EBSCOhost have confirmed that the problems affecting deep-link requests to EBSCO journal titles, reported earlier in the week, has now been resolved.

Journal links in eSearch and SFX to EBSCOhost titles should now connect normally.

Metasearch, SFX and EBSCOhost

The reported problem affecting metasearching and remote searching of EBSCOhost databases in eSearch has now been resolved. Searches are working normally (indicated both by repeated testing and by live tracking of the eSearch search logs) – please report any remaining anomalies you encounter (the time of the failure, if known, would help to track back through the log files to identify the problem).

The separate issue affecting deep-linking to EBSCOhost ejournal titles through SFX is still being investigated. EBSCO are aware of “sporadic failing persistent links to records within EBSCOhost” impacting on all customers of SFX and other linking services. A further update will follow once this additional service issue has also been resolved

Criminal Justice Abstracts

The Criminal Justice Abstracts service (previously provided through the CSA Illumina) is now made available through the EBSCOhost platform. All listings for the service have been updated in eSearch. Access is direct on-campus; and by university username and password off-campus. Remote and metasearching for CJA on the EBSCOhost platform has now been enabled in eSearch.

IBSS (International Bibliography of the Social Sciences)

Access to the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences is now provided through the CSA Illumina platform (it was previously made available to LLR customers through the EBSCOhost interface; and, before that, through the OvidSP platform).

Access is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. Metasearching and remote searching of IBSS is enabled in eSearch.

New resource: Business Source Complete

Access to the Business Source Complete full-text database has been enabled in eSearch. Access is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. Business Source Complete replaces the ‘Business Source Premier’ service (which has now been withdrawn from eSearch and SFX). All of the full-text titles in Business Source Complete service have been enabled in SFX. Catalogue records for titles in the collection will be added to the Library Catalogue at the next refresh of the ejournal record set.

EBSCOhost databases – on campus resolution issue resolved

The previously reported problem preventing connections to EBSCOhost service resolving to the selected service was resolved a few days after being first reported. On-campus links to EBSCOhost databases now default directly to the individual selected database search screen.

EBSCOhost database: on-campus links in eSearch not resolving to correct database option

The eServices team is working with EBSCOhost technical support to resolve a problem with is causing on-campus (IP authenticated) links from eSearch to EBSCOhost databases to default to the Academic Search Elite (ASE) search screen.

eSearch database level links to the following services, will all resolve to the same ASE interface.

* Academic Search Elite
* Business Source Premier
* EconLit
* International Bibliography of the Social Sciences
* Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts
* PsycARTICLES
* PsycINFO
* Regional Business News
* SPORTDiscus
* Textile Technology Index

Pending a resolution of this problem, please select the ‘Choose Databases’ link in the main search screen (see illustration below) and use the tick boxes in the pop-up window to select the appropriate database/s.

This problem is not affecting off-campus access to EBSCOhost databases or deep-linking to individual journal titles and article content via SFX.
