Off-campus access to ISURV restored

AS PART OF the rollout of the new hosted eZproxy service, off-campus access to the ISURV platform has been re-enabled. Off-campus access is once again available by university username and password, with on-campus access continuing to be direct.

Off-campus access using eZproxy and updates to third-party web sites

The eZproxy authentication framework enables the library to provide secure off-campus access to subscription-based third-party resources for providers who are unable to support the Shibboleth protocol. We have encountered an issue over the last few months that has led to the loss of off-campus to a number of such resources. This is the result of those third-party web platforms moving their entire site across from ‘http:’ to the more secure ‘https:’ protocol. This causes a key component of the exchange between the university’s eZproxy server and the third party site to fail.

The solution to this issue is an upgrade to the eZproxy server, an enhancement that colleagues in IS are preparing to deploy to the production environment once testing has successfully completed.

Secure off-campus access to ISURV enabled in Library OneSearch

Secure off-campus access to the ISURV platform has been enabled in the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch. While on-campus access remains direct, off-campus access is now through university username and password (using the secure link provided in LOS). Access URLs and details have been updated in the records in Library OneSearch.

isurv – off-campus access withdrawn

Following a change in the subscription profile provided to Libraries and Learning Resources, off-campus access to isurv service (which was previously available by university username and password) has now been withdrawn from eSearch. Access to isurv is currently available on-campus only.

A technical issue that caused a temporary loss of access to the isurv service (from both on-campus and off-campus) has now been resolved. Access is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.

Access to the isurv service in eSearch, which had been temporarily unavailable, has now been re-enabled. Access remains direct on-campus, and by university username and password from off-campus (using Shibboleth/eZproxy).

As the nature of NTU’s subscription to the service has changed, the message which displays to a logged in NTU staff member or student has changed to the following: “Hello, RICS East region universities – you are signed in” (see illustration below). This message previously referred to ‘Nottingham Trent University’).

This change has been necessitated now that NTU’s subscription costs to the service are being met directly by RICS (as part of a wider agreement with other universities) and that LLR’s previous paid-for subscription has been suspended.

Access to the isurv service is now available off-campus via NTU domain, username and password. Links and prompts in eSearch have been updated accordingly.

The isurv service has migrated to a new, updated platform (which includes the 2008 edition of the ‘Red Book’), and links in eSearch have been updated accordingly. On-campus access to isurv (which was previously by specific username and password) is now direct; off-campus access (by NTU domain, username and password) will be available shortly. The previous entry for isurv on the ‘Other Passwords’ page is therefore now redundant and will be withdrawn shortly.
