Additional electronic and online resources: Manchester Hive eBook collections

A NEW SET OF eBook collections from Manchester University Press has been added to the current list of temporary additional electronic and online resources in the Find Databases service.

The Manchester Hive platform is described as follows:

A collection of eBook content published by Manchester University Press covering a wide variety of subjects and disciplines. Content is organised into chapters and sections, is fully searchable and browseable, and can be downloaded for offline reading.

Twelve separate eBook collections are available, and the Find Databases listing for the resource provides a direct authenticated deep-link to each.

Access to the Manchester Hive platform is by university username and password.

ProQuest platform – scheduled maintenance – 9 February 2020

A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE period on the ProQuest platform is scheduled for Sunday 9 February 2020, between 3:00 and 15:00 (UK time).

This means that the following ProQuest databases, eBook platforms and services, to which the library subscribes, will be unavailable throughout the first six hour period, 3:00 to 9:00 (UK time).

And upon completion of the maintenance window, for an additional six hours from 9:00 to 15:00, automatic citation functionality and MyResearch account access will continue to be unavailable:

Ubidictionary – scheduled maintenance – 28 November 2019

On Thursday 28 November between 1pm and 4pm, the Ubidictionary service will be suspended to carry out a technical update of the platforms’ infrastructure.

During this time the following e-book titles will be unavailable:

ProQuest eBook platforms – access restored

ProQuest have confirmed that access to their e-book platforms has been restored.

ProQuest apologize for any inconvenience caused.

VLeBooks – migration to new reader com.

During August one of our ebook providers, Askews and Holt, will be launching a new enhanced reader to replace the existing VLEeBooks reader.

Once migrated to the new reader any browser bookmarks for particular titles will no longer work and these will need to be re-accessed via Library OneSearch.

In preparation for the migration any user who wishes to save any notes stored on the current reader will be required to export these by Friday 12th July, otherwise they will be lost.

Any titles stored within ‘My Bookshelves’ also need to be noted for future addition to the new reader as these will not transfer over when migration happens.

The new reader will include many new features such as highlighting, sophisticated note options, improved accessibility and mobile responsiveness.
