Zetoc: rejected remote search requests problem resolved
The MIMAS service has been able to identify and correct the cause of a technical problem which was resulting in remote searches of Zetoc being rejected. The remote search configuration had been temporarily disabled in eSearch while this problem was resolved, but has now been re-enabled.
Emerald: remote search delays
Remote searches of the Emerald platform from eSearch have been intermittently slow over the past week, resulting in some cases in search requests, and requests for full record display, timing out. Investigations are continuing with Emerald to identify the cause. In the meantime, remote searches of Emerald in eSearch may be temporarily disabled if the problem returns.
eSearch – Thursday 15 November 2007: busiest day to date
Thursday 15 November 2007 was the busiest single day for eSearch since the application was launched in January 2005. More than 2,000 separate sessions were recorded during the course of the day. A session is launched each time a customer accesses eSearch and is kept alive until the customer logs out or until there is five minutes continuous inactivity. Since the withdrawal of the subject portal and the A-Z database and ejournal lists from the LLR web site (an important component of the implementation of the LLR Resource Discovery Strategy) numbers of weekday daily eSearch sessions are regularly in excess of 1300.
eSearch: off-campus access delays resolved
The delay in accessing the home page of eSearch being experienced by some off-campus customers reported on September 20 was resolved shortly afterwards. On-campus and off-campus access speeds should now be all-but identical.
eSearch – slow initial access for some off-campus customers
Work in underway to identify the cause of the delay which some off-campus customers are experiencing when accessing the eSearch home page. Once the initial page has loaded (and the customer has picked up the status of ‘Guest’) all subsequent page requests work normally. While we work towards a resolution of this issue, the initial advice for customers reporting such a problem is to allow further time for their browser to load the eSearch home page, and then to use the service as normal. We will update when we have identified the necessary changes to remove this problem. Access on-campus is unaffected.
Ex Libris products and Windows Vista compliance
Ex Libris have confirmed that the versions of ALEPH, SFX and eSearch (MetaLib) in production at NTU are fully compliant with the new Windows Vista operating system.
Internet Explorer v.7.0 – OPAC, SFX and eSearch compliance
Ex Libris have confirmed that the versions of ALEPH OPAC, SFX and eSearch that LLR is running are fully compliant with the new version of the Internet Explorer web browser – Version 7. This is currently of relevance only to off-campus users, as no decision has yet been taken to upgrade the university’s existing Version 6 of Internet Explorer on the campus network. An announcement from Ex Libris regarding product compliance with the new Windows Vista operating system is expected in April (again, this will only be currently of relevance to off-campus users).
IE v.7.0 has been installed on an eServices PC, so it is possible for us to replicate any other browser-specific eservices issues that the team is alerted to.
eSearch now working once again
Thanks to fantastically responsive out-of-hours support from one of our colleagues in IS, Stuart Moore, eSearch is now fully operational once again.
eSearch unavailable
A problem has arisen on the Tolstoy server this evening which is preventing users from accessing eSearch. Although the eSearch login screen loads and allows the user to submit U/P details, the web browser then loops before timing out.
Our support colleagues in IS will be able to investigate the issue first thing on Wednesday morning, and I’ll update as soon as the issue has been resolved.
SFX and Citation Linker is unaffected by this problem.
Withdrawn resource: Future Drugs and Future Medicine ejournals
The temporary free access offer to the ejournals titles published by Future Drugs and Future Medicine has now concluded, and full-text access is now only available by subscription. As a result, listings for all the titles in these collections have been withdrawn from SFX. The titles will disappear from the eSearch ejournals list at the next update.
