New resource: Child Development and Adolescent Studies

Provided through the EBSCOhost platform, access to the Child Development and Adolescent Studies database is now available through Library OneSearch. Access is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

Child Development and Adolescent Studies provides access to all issues of Child Development Abstracts & Bibliography from 1927-2001, and a range of newer material covering issues related to the growth and development of children and adolescents up to the age of 21.

New resource: Educational Administration Abstracts

Access to the Educational Administration Abstracts service has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Provided through the EBSCOhost platform, access to the service is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

Educational Administration Abstracts provides access to almost 200,000 bibliographic records covering areas related to educational administration; including educational leadership, educational management and educational research.

Produced by H. W. Wilson, access to the Education Abstracts database is now available on the EBSCOhost platform through Library OneSearch. Access is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

Provides access to indexes and abstracts from more than 680 periodicals and books related to all aspects of education, including: adult education, comparative education, government funding, higher education, school administration and teacher evaluation.

British Education Index now accessible through the EBSCOhost platform

The British Education Index (BEI) which was previously accessed through the ProQuest platform is now available through the EBSCOhost service. All links and metadata, including category/subject assignments, have been updated in Library OneSearch to reflect this change. Access to BEI is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.

PsycARTICLES now accessible through the ProQuest platform

The PsycARTICLES full-text database previously accessed through the EBSCOhost platform is now available through the ProQuest interface. Links and all related metadata have been updated in Library OneSearch, including the transfer of the previous category/subjects assignments. Access remains direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. Remote searching (metasearching) of the PsycARTICLES service has also been enabled in LOS.

Listings in SFX for all full-text PsycARTICLES’ journals have been migrated to integrate with the new ProQuest platform.

Lawtel: off-campus access problems resolved

The issues preventing off-campus access to the Lawtel service (reported on 5 September 2014) have now been resolved.

Off-campus access to Lawtel is once again available by university username and password. On-campus access remains direct.

Details in Library OneSearch have been updated, and the service alert removed.

Box of Broadcasts (BoB) service at risk 15 September 2014

The Box of Broadcasts (BoB) service has published an advance service notification for 15 September 2014:

On Monday 15 September, a system software update will be performed on BoB National. This is to correct a recent bug in the system, where selected channels are not displaying the BBC Archive listings. It will also correct ITV to the London region. The process is estimated to last about an hour, so please inform your users that the service is at risk from 0900-1300.

Unfortunately, we cannot be more specific with the “at risk” period but we will inform you when the work is complete.

Lawtel: problems preventing off-campus access

The library is working with the support team at Lawtel to resolve problems which are currently preventing off-campus access to the Lawtel service.

A note has been added to the Find Databases listing for Lawtel indicating that off-campus access is temporarily unavailable.

A further update will follow once off-campus access is confirmed as restored.

New resource: eBrary Academic Complete, 113k eBooks

Access to 113,000 new eBook titles from the eBrary Academic Complete collection has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Titles in this vast collection range across a wide spectrum of academic disciplines, and the activation of this new collection signals a significant expansion of the library’s fast-growing eBook provision. Access to the titles in the collection is by university username and password. Deep-links to some example titles from the collection are provided below:

New resource: Oxford Handbooks Online

Access to five collections of Oxford Handbooks Online has been enabled in SFX. Individual eBook records for each of the titles in these collections will be discoverable in Library OneSearch shortly. Access to all of the subscribed titles is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The Oxford Handbooks Online collections that the library has subscribed to are:

  • Business & Management
  • Criminology & Criminal Justice
  • Political Science
  • Psychology

Cambridge University Press – 300 additional ejournal titles

Access to an additional 300 current, full-text ejournal titles from Cambridge University Press has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Access to these titles is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.

These titles will be discoverable through the SFX ejournal A-Z and through Library OneSearch searches shortly.

New resource: Sage (Premier 2014)

Access to the number of full-text journals available to library customers through the Sage ejournal platform has risen to almost 700 with the activation of the Sage (Premier 2014) collection. Access to all titles in this collection is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. These titles are already discoverable through the SFX ejournal A-Z and will be findable through Library OneSearch searches shortly.

Full-text availability for a proportion of titles in this extended collection map to the library’s existing Sage ‘backfile’ holdings (see illustrated example below).
