New resource: ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global

Access to the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global database has been enabled in Library OneSearch. This resource, which includes the full-text of graduate works added since 1997, and which has a global range, replaces the previous ProQuest Dissertations & Theses – UK and Ireland (ProQuest) database, which has been withdrawn from LOS. Access is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global offers a collection of dissertations and theses from around the world, spanning from 1743 to the present day and offering full text for graduate works added since 1997, along with selected full text for works written prior to 1997. It contains a significant amount of new international dissertations and theses both in citations and in full text.

Withdrawn Resource: ProQuest Dissertations & Theses – UK and Ireland

Access to the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses – UK and Ireland (ProQuest) service has been withdrawn from the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch. This database has been superseded by the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global database which offers “a collection of dissertations and theses from around the world, spanning from 1743 to the present day and offering full text for graduate works added since 1997, along with selected full text for works written prior to 1997.”

Upgraded resource: SPORTDiscus now with full-text

The Library’s subscription to the SPORTDiscus abstract and indexing database has now been upgraded to provide full-text content for more than 700 titles in the SPORTDiscus With Full-Text collection. Access remains direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.

Access to the A&I version of SPORTDiscus will continue to be available until April. Full-text titles have been activated in the SFX service and will be added to the indexed inventory of the library’s electronic journal collection shortly.

UPDATE, 20 APRIL 2017: Access to the A&I version of SPORTDiscus has been withdrawn from Library OneSearch, with SPORTDiscus – with Full Text now presented by default. This has also been replicated in the EBSCOhost interface.

Web of Science – off-campus access link updated

A problem affecting off-campus requests to the Web of Science platform in Library OneSearch has been resolved. Following new information from the WoS technical support team, off-campus access links in LOS have been updated. Access to Web of Science remains direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.

Access to Mintel currently unavailable

The library is awaiting a response from the Mintel technical team following a loss of access to the Mintel market research database platform through Library OneSearch.

Requests to the Mintel platform are currently returning a DNS error. A further update will follow once access to the service has been reestablished.

Lexis Library and Nexis UK – login issues

The technical team at Lexis are investigating an issue which is preventing login requests to both the Lexis Library and Nexis UK services from completing successfully.

Requests from the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch resolve to an error page that reports a problem in the communication exchange between the Lexis platform and NTU’s single sign-on environment.

A further update will follow once the issue is confirmed as resolved.

Lexis’ support team have updated the library as follows:

We are currently experiencing an on-going issue with the LexisNexis academic sites and our network engineers are already aware of this error that you are getting and are now working to resolve this as soon as possible. As of now, we do not have a turnaround time to when will this be fixed, but I will send you an update as soon as the issue gets resolved. We would like to apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused you.

While Lexis’ team continue to work on the underlying technical issues, the access URLs for both Nexis UK and Lexis Library have been updated in Library OneSearch in an attempt to provide a more stable access experience.

The Bankscope database has been renamed as Orbis Bank Focus in the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch, to align with the product’s name change.

Searching for the resource’s previous name in the Find Databases search box will also return the listing for Orbis Bank Focus.

ISIS (Insurance Companies Worldwide) renamed as Orbis Insurance Focus

The ISIS (Insurance Companies Worldwide) database has been renamed as Orbis Insurance Focus in the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch, to align with the product’s name change.

New resource: Kanopy – streaming video service

Access to the streaming video service Kanopy has been enabled in the Find Databases section of Library OneSearch. Access to Kanopy is by university username and password. The library’s subscription to Kanopy provides patron driven acquisition access to all of the content discoverable by NTU staff and students, so any film listed on the platform can be viewed. New content is regularly added to the site, which will also be available to library customers by default.

Individual catalogue records for Kanopy film titles will be uploaded to Aleph, and made discoverable in Library OneSearch, shortly.

The resource is described as follows:

Kanopy is a video streaming service that provides access to more than 28,000 film and documentary titles across the disciplines of: the arts, business, education, global studies and languages, health, media and communications, sciences and social sciences, as well as instructional films and lessons.

Film content can be streamed to a wide variety of desktop and mobile devices, and can be embedded in web pages and other online applications.

Register for a personal user account on the site to create clips, playlists, watchlists, get recommendations, post ratings and reviews and to keep a record of the films that you watched.

Resolved: Off-campus access problems affecting Journal Citation Reports

The previously reported technical problem, which was causing off-campus access requests to the Journal Citation Reports service from within Web of Science to be rejected, has now been resolved.

It is therefore possible to access the JCR service from within WoS from off-campus once again.

The separate listing for Journal Citation Reports in Library OneSearch, which provides an authenticated WAYFLess deep-link to JCR, that was created while this technical problem persisted, will be retained.

New resource listing: Journal Citation Reports

The technical team at Thomson Reuters are working to resolve a problem which is causing off-campus access requests to the Journal Citation Reports service from within Web of Science to be rejected.

Pending the deployment of a stable fix, an additional entry for Journal Citation Reports has been added to the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch. This new listing provides a separate, WAYFLess URL that will ensure access to the JCR platform from off-campus. Authentication via this new link is by university username and password. The resource is described as follows:

Journal Citation Reports provides quantifiable, statistical information based on citation data, supporting the comparative analysis of impact. By compiling articles’ cited references, JCR helps to measure research influence at the journal and category levels, and shows the relationship between citing and cited journals.

Edinburgh University Press: new platform

Edinburgh University Press has launched a new platform, and existing full-text journal subscription information in SFX has been updated accordingly. Customisation features have been reflected in the new site (including basic branding, OpenURL integration, etc.,) and, for the first time, full-text access to subscription content is now accessible from off-campus via university username and password.
