PsycARTICLES now accessible through the ProQuest platform

The PsycARTICLES full-text database previously accessed through the EBSCOhost platform is now available through the ProQuest interface. Links and all related metadata have been updated in Library OneSearch, including the transfer of the previous category/subjects assignments. Access remains direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. Remote searching (metasearching) of the PsycARTICLES service has also been enabled in LOS.

Listings in SFX for all full-text PsycARTICLES’ journals have been migrated to integrate with the new ProQuest platform.

Lawtel: off-campus access problems resolved

The issues preventing off-campus access to the Lawtel service (reported on 5 September 2014) have now been resolved.

Off-campus access to Lawtel is once again available by university username and password. On-campus access remains direct.

Details in Library OneSearch have been updated, and the service alert removed.

New resource: eBrary Academic Complete, 113k eBooks

Access to 113,000 new eBook titles from the eBrary Academic Complete collection has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Titles in this vast collection range across a wide spectrum of academic disciplines, and the activation of this new collection signals a significant expansion of the library’s fast-growing eBook provision. Access to the titles in the collection is by university username and password. Deep-links to some example titles from the collection are provided below:

Elsevier Science Direct (Freedom Collection) in SFX

Following an extensive audit of the SFX Knowledge Base by the Serials team, the different publisher entries for the many hundreds of Elsevier full-text journal titles (such as those under Elsevier Science Direct (Academic Press) and Elsevier Science Direct (Excerpta Medica)) have been re-profiled and regrouped under the heading ‘Elsevier Science Direct (Freedom Collection)’ – see example below.

Elsevier Science Direct (Freedom Collection)

Automated routing through an authentication check has been enabled for all titles in this collection (which means that off-campus users will be passed through ‘university username and password’ authentication before being resolved to the full-text journal listing).

SFX listings for journals in the Elsevier backfiles collections and for the Elsevier Economics Handbooks are unaffected by these changes.

Nature.com – off-campus access enabled

Following the deployment of some additional configuration changes by the nature.com technical team, off-campus access to subscribed content on the nature.com platform is now available off-campus – by university username and password. (On-campus access remains direct). Information in SFX has been updated accordingly. To access full-text content off-campus:

  • Select the ‘Login’ option in the top right-hand corner of the Nature.com screen
  • On the login page which then loads, select the ‘Login via your institution’ option
  • On the new page which then loads, search for ‘Nottingham Trent’ in the ‘Search for an institution’ option
  • Select ‘Nottingham Trent University’ from the result list. The browser will then resolve to the ‘NTU Single Sign-on’ page

LLR’s subscriptions currently cover full-text access to the following nature.com titles:

Nature (most recent four years)

  • Nature
  • Nature Genetics
  • Nature medicine
  • Nature biotechnology
  • Nature neuroscience
  • Nature reviews. Molecular cell biology
  • Nature Immunology

Nature (backfiles 2007-2012)

  • Nature
  • Nature Genetics
  • Nature Immunology

There is currently an ‘entitlement overlap’ for three titles between the ‘most recent four years’ subscription and the ‘2007-2012’ backfile. In addition nature.com offers free access to a selected range of current and archival journal content. Where possible, this free-to-access journal content is listed separately in SFX.

Springer journals – off-campus access enabled

Access to subscribed full-text journals on the Springer platform is now available off-campus – using a university username and password. (On-campus access remains direct). Information about off-campus access to Springer titles has been updated in SFX accordingly.

To access Springer journal content from off-campus:

  • Select the ‘Sign up/ Log-in’ option in the top right hand corner of the Springer home page
  • Select the ‘Institutional / Athens login’ option in the drop-down
  • On the login page which then loads, in the  ‘Find your institution (via Shibboleth)’ search box, type ‘Nottingham Trent’
  • Select the matching entry for Nottingham Trent University in the result list click on the ‘Log in via Shibboleth’ button. The browser will resolve to the ‘NTU Single Sign-on’ page

IEEE Xplore platform – Shibboleth login issues

With colleagues in Information Systems, LLR is investigating an issue which is preventing off-campus login to the IEEE Xplore platform. Customers selecting ‘Nottingham Trent University’ from the available list of institutions to log in from are resolved to a Shibboleth error page rather than to the NTU Single Sign-On page.

A further update will follow once the issue has been successfully resolved.

Westlaw – temporary access arrangements withdrawn

The temporary access arrangements for Westlaw have been withdrawn in Library OneSearch, following the conclusion of the ‘essential maintenance’ works on 28 August.

Access to Westlaw is once again by university username and password from on-campus and off-campus.

Westlaw – temporary access arrangements (22-28 August)

At short notice, Westlaw is carrying out ‘essential maintenance’ on its Shibboleth service: which means it will not be possible to sign-in to Westlaw using a university username and password between 22-28 August.

Temporary access arrangements have been agreed with Westlaw, and links in Library OneSearch have been updated accordingly.

Between 22-28 August, on-campus access to Westlaw will be direct (using IP authentication). Off-campus access will not  be available. On-campus access will only be possible using the links in the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch.

A further update will follow once Westlaw’s normal sign-in services have been restored.

RefWorks: cause of Shibboleth error reported by some customers

The RefWorks technical team are aware of a known bug affecting their Shibboleth Service Provider (SP) which can cause authentication failures in one particular scenario.

The issue can arise when a student or staff member accesses RefWorks through a search engine look-up or by typing the domain name directly into their browser address bar, rather than through using library managed links to RefWorks.

This is because the RefWorks Shibboleth service treats differently requests which originate from http://www.refworks.com from those which originate from http://refworks.com

Login requests which begin from http://www.refworks.com will complete successfully, while requests which start from http://refworks.com will not, and will generate authentication failures and error messages.

To avoid the risk of these problems, the recommendation is to use the direct links to RefWorks on the library website, or to ensure that requests to RefWorks include the ‘www’ element in the web address.

The WAYFLess deep-link, which directs the user straight to the NTU Single Sign-on page, and then returns them (once successfully logged-in) to RefWorks is:

https://www.refworks.com/RWShibboleth?providerid=https://shib2idp.ntu.ac.uk/idp/shibboleth

Chadwyck Healey – Shibboleth configuration changes

Following changes to Shibboleth configuration on the Chadwyck Healey database platform, off-campus deep-link login URLs for the following services have been updated in Library OneSearch:

  • ABELL
  • EEBO
  • House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (HCPP) – 18th Century
  • House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (HCPP) – 19th Century
  • House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (HCPP) – 20th Century
  • John Johnson Collection
  • LION
  • MLA

Studies on Women and Gender Abstracts: linking change

Access details for the Studies on Women and Gender Abstracts service have been updated in Library OneSearch, to deep-link direct to the appropriate section of the Taylor and Francis site. Access remains direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.
