Withdrawal of temporarily available online resources

Head of Discovery and Digital Futures

DURING THE FIRST months of the Covid-19 campus closure, the library was able to provide access to a large number of additional database resources to support learning, teaching and research activities. These resources were a combination of short-term subscriptions and materials made temporarily available under licence by publishers.

Over recent weeks, the majority of these temporary arrangements have concluded. As a result, the following resources have been removed from the Find Databases service.

  • LWW Health Library
  • Law Trove – Oxford University Press
  • Manchester Hive (MUP eBook collections)

  • SAGE Research Methods Video
  • SAGE Video
  • Screen Studies
  • University of California Press Journals

The library is in the process of subscribing to a wide range of additional online resources, and details of these new collections will be made available through this blog.

Withdrawn resource: JoVE Science Education

THE PERIOD OF temporary access to JoVE’s Science Education, Core, and Lab Manual content provided by the publisher has concluded.

As a result, the listing for JoVE Science Education has been withdrawn from the list of additional electronic resources being provided during the current closure of the site libraries.

THE MLA INTERNATIONAL Bibliography has been withdrawn from the Find Databases service following the conclusion of LLR’s subscription to the resource.

The library’s subscription to LION (Literature Online) is continuing, and is joined from today by a new subscription to the ProQuest One Literature platform.

THE BRITISH FILM Institute (BFI) InView multimedia streaming platform has been withdrawn from the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch following the suspension of the service at the end of the current licensing period.

While future options in relation to subscription content on the new BFI Player service are reviewed, access to the Free collection on the BFI Player platform has been enabled in the Find Databases service.

ACCESS TO THE Gartner database has been withdrawn from the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch following the conclusion of Information Systems’ subscription to the resource.

The entry for the Gartner database in the ‘All’ search of LOS will disappear overnight, as an updated set of records is reloaded and re-indexed from eSearch.

The Land of Lost Content archive has been withdrawn from the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch following the conclusion of the library’s subscription to the resource.

Withdrawn Resource: ProQuest Dissertations & Theses – UK and Ireland

Access to the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses – UK and Ireland (ProQuest) service has been withdrawn from the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch. This database has been superseded by the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global database which offers “a collection of dissertations and theses from around the world, spanning from 1743 to the present day and offering full text for graduate works added since 1997, along with selected full text for works written prior to 1997.”

Access to the INSPEC database (provided through the Engineering Village platform) has been withdrawn from the Find Databases and main search indexes of Library OneSearch following the conclusion of the library’s subscription to the resource. Access to the Compendex service continues to be available through the Engineering Village site.

Evidence Based Acquisition (EBA) eBook project: Wiley records in Library OneSearch

Further to the previous Evidence Based Acquisition (EBA) eBook project update (4 May 2016), 17,879 Wiley UCBM records have now been suspended from discovery in Library OneSearch (following the conclusion of the Wiley discovery phase at the end of May).

These Wiley titles will be reviewed during the selection phase (during which the library decides which titles will be bought outright in perpetuity, and which will be withdrawn from the collection) alongside the EBA collections from Bloomsbury, Oxford Scholarship Online, Sage and Cambridge University Press.
