Building Law Reports

The Building Law Reports service has migrated to the new i-law.com platform, and access details have been updated in eSearch accordingly. Username and password details for the resource have also been updated on the ‘Other Passwords’ page.

The following additional information has been added to the information icon for Building Law Reports in eSearch:

Once you have logged in, from the My-ilaw tab (on the left-hand side of the i-law portal page) select My Subscriptions and then choose the Search option (on the right-hand side of the page) for Building Law Reports.

Withdrawn resource: Dissertation Abstracts

Proquest have withdrawn the previously free-to-use time-restricted Dissertation Abstracts service (which provided citations and abstracts from US doctoral dissertations and masters’ theses for the two previous years). This service is now only available as part of a paid subscription. As a result, this resource has currently been withdrawn from eSearch.

Land, Life and Leisure – temporary access problems

Hardware problems have affected access to the EDINA hosted Land, Life and Leisure service over the past few days, with access temporarily suspended at times. Access has now been restored.

Intute – remote searching problems

Server problems at the Intute service led to the temporary suspension of remote search functionality earlier this week – meaning that none of the Intute collections could be meta-searched in eSearch. The server problems have now been resolved, and remote searching is again functioning normally.

‘Other Passwords’ page changes

In addition to the change to the ISURV username and password reported in the last eServices eResources Update, the usernames and passwords for the following resources have recently been updated on the ‘Other Passwords’ page:

  • Brand Republic
  • Child abuse, welfare and adoption
  • Cipfastats
  • EGI
  • Ibsedex
  • Just-style
  • Media lawyer
  • Mergent Online
  • Solicitors Journal
  • Tunnels & Tunnelling
  • Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory
  • WGSN

Platform change: SportDiscus

Access to the SportDiscus database is now provided through the EBSCOhost platform (rather than through the OVID-Silverplatter platform, as previously). Access is direct on-campus; off-campus access requires an Athens username and password. SportDiscus is enabled as an SFX ‘source’ and is cross-searchable within eSearch.

eSearch: off-campus access delays resolved

The delay in accessing the home page of eSearch being experienced by some off-campus customers reported on September 20 was resolved shortly afterwards. On-campus and off-campus access speeds should now be all-but identical.

LexisNexis Business and News rebranded as ‘Nexis UK’

LexisNexis has rebranded the new ‘LexisNexis Business and News’ service as Nexis UK, with immediate effect.

The resource has been retitled in eSearch as ‘Nexis UK’. The access URL to the service has also been updated.

Database title searches for ‘LexisNexis Business and News’ in eSearch will now return ‘Nexis UK’.

All of the previous Sub-Category assignments for ‘LexisNexis Business and News’ have been transfered to Nexis UK.

eSearch – slow initial access for some off-campus customers

Work in underway to identify the cause of the delay which some off-campus customers are experiencing when accessing the eSearch home page. Once the initial page has loaded (and the customer has picked up the status of ‘Guest’) all subsequent page requests work normally. While we work towards a resolution of this issue, the initial advice for customers reporting such a problem is to allow further time for their browser to load the eSearch home page, and then to use the service as normal. We will update when we have identified the necessary changes to remove this problem. Access on-campus is unaffected.

Construction and Building Abstracts – access restored

Access to the CBA database has now been restored following a temporary interruption in service. Access remains direct on-campus, with a university username and password required for off-campus access.

Westlaw – new platform

Access to the new Westlaw interface has been established in eSearch. Authentication remains direct on-campus with an Athens username and password required for off-campus access.

After 30 minutes of inactivity, Westlaw terminates an active session and displays a ‘timed-out’ message. To start a new session, simply refresh the page (and re-enter your Athens credentials, if accessing from off-campus). eServices have approached Westlaw to ask them to add a prompt to this effect to the timeout page.
