The Oxford Reference Online (Premium Collection) has been withdrawn from eSearch following the conclusion of LLR’s subscription to the resource. The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and the Oxford English Dictionary online have both been retained.
Web of Knowledge – direct export to RefWorks enabled
The ability to export references direct to RefWorks has been enabled in all Web of Knowledge services. A new RefWorks button appears in all relevant results screens (see example illustration below, from BIOSIS Previews).

The option to export multiple selected records direct to RefWorks is also now available in the ‘Marked List’ features (see illustration below):
Web of Knowledge – remote and metasearch configurations updated
The remote and metasearch configurations for Web of Knowledge databases have been updated in eSearch. For the Science Citation Index, Social Science Citation Index, Arts and Humanities Citation Index and BIOSIS Previews, searches now only retrieve record sets from those individual collections. To remote search the whole of the WoK collection in eSearch, select either the Web of Knowledge or Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings) options.
Cambridge University Press journals – off-campus access enabled
Off-campus access to subscribed journals on the Cambridge University Press journal platform is now available by university username and password. Prompts in SFX have been updated accordingly. On-campus access continues to be direct.
EBSCOhost – journal linking issue resolved
EBSCOhost have confirmed that the problems affecting deep-link requests to EBSCO journal titles, reported earlier in the week, has now been resolved.
Journal links in eSearch and SFX to EBSCOhost titles should now connect normally.
Metasearch, SFX and EBSCOhost
The reported problem affecting metasearching and remote searching of EBSCOhost databases in eSearch has now been resolved. Searches are working normally (indicated both by repeated testing and by live tracking of the eSearch search logs) – please report any remaining anomalies you encounter (the time of the failure, if known, would help to track back through the log files to identify the problem).
The separate issue affecting deep-linking to EBSCOhost ejournal titles through SFX is still being investigated. EBSCO are aware of “sporadic failing persistent links to records within EBSCOhost” impacting on all customers of SFX and other linking services. A further update will follow once this additional service issue has also been resolved
Problems affecting the Web of Knowledge service – update
Performance issues are continuing to affect the Web of Knowledge service, but a new workaround off-campus access URL has been added to all WoK resources in eSearch – meaning that off-campus access to WoK databases is now available once again.
Problems affecting the Web of Knowledge service
Following a series of upgrades on the Web of Knowledge platform (to support the migration to a new WoK interface), unanticipated technical problems are affecting the service.
Thomson ISI-MIMAS advise:
“We are currently experiencing performance issues with Web of Knowledge access, search and navigation. Our technical staff is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience.”
For most off-campus customers, Shibboleth based authentication (using a university username and password) is unavailable, either through eSearch or direct in the WoK interface.
The affected services are:
* Arts and Humanities Citation Index
* BIOSIS Previews (Web of Science)
* Journal Citation Reports
* Science Citation Index
* Social Science Citation Index
* Web of Knowledge
* Web of Science (with Conference Proceedings)
Service alerts have been added to all of these resources in eSearch. A further update will follow once these service problems are confirmed as resolved
New resource: Digital National Security Archive
Access to the new Digital National Security Archive has been enabled in eSearch. Access is direct on-campus; and off-campus access (although not currently available) should be available shortly. The resource is described as follows:
The Digital National Security Archive contains the most comprehensive set of declassified government documents available. Each of these collections, compiled by top scholars and experts, exhaustively covers the most critical world events, countries, and U.S. policy decisions from post World War II through the 21st century. The two collections currently available are: Digital National Security Archive: Iraqgate: Saddam Hussein, U.S. Policy and the Prelude to the Persian Gulf War, 1980–1994 and Digital National Security Archive: U.S. Nuclear Non-Proliferation Policy, 1945–1991.
Separate entries for the two component collections have also been enabled in eSearch.
Wiley Online Library
Off-campus access to the Wiley Online Library service (previously Wiley InterScience) is now available by university username and password. Access details have been updated in eSearch and SFX. A new and improved remote and metasearch configuration for Wiley Online Library has been enabled in eSearch.
Criminal Justice Abstracts
The Criminal Justice Abstracts service (previously provided through the CSA Illumina) is now made available through the EBSCOhost platform. All listings for the service have been updated in eSearch. Access is direct on-campus; and by university username and password off-campus. Remote and metasearching for CJA on the EBSCOhost platform has now been enabled in eSearch.
