Westlaw – off-campus access reinstated

ACCESS TO WESTLAW from off-campus has been re-enabled in the library’s Find Databases service.

Off-campus access is available once again by university username and password (with access on-campus remaining direct).

The reported problems with the university’s preferred authenticated access route to Westlaw are continuing, but the library has been able to establish an alternative authentication method pending the resolution of these problems.

Shibboleth – brief outage – 23 October 2018

TO ENABLE SOME essential maintenance, the Shibboleth service (which enables single sign-on for staff and students, using a university username and password) will be ‘at risk’ for this morning, between 07:00 and 09:00.

It is anticipated that the service may be unavailable for a fifteen-minute period at some point during that two-hour window.

A further update will follow once testing has confirmed that the Shibboleth service is fully operational once again.

A further update will follow once on-campus access has been restored. Affected databases include:

  • Picture Post Historical Archive
  • British Library Newspapers
  • 19th Century UK Periodicals
  • 17th and 18th Century Burney Collection
  • The Times Digital Archive

Science Direct off-campus access issues now resolved

The recent off-campus access issues around Science Direct Sign in and redirect problems have now been resolved by the Elsevier technical team.

Using either Sign in option will return a user back to the content rather than the homepage.

Science Direct off-campus access issues

The technical team at Elsevier are currently investigating some issues with Science Direct and off-campus access log in errors.

The Sign in option to the top right of the screen will return a user back to the Science Direct home page rather than the content they were trying to access.

Until they resolve this issue, use the Sign in option at the bottom of the summary page of the content you are trying to access. Using this route will avoid the current authentication redirect problem.
