JISC e-Book Observatory Project – remaining titles added to the Library Catalogue

Records for the 10 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins titles included in the JISC e-Book Observatory Project, provided through the Books@Ovid platform, have now been added to the library catalogue. Access to these titles is by Athens username and password.

New resource: 19th Century British Library Newspapers

Access to the 19th Century British Library Newspapers collection has been set-up in eSearch. Access is direct on-campus; with an Athens username and password required for off-campus access. The resource can be added to eSearch Sub-Categories on request. The resource is described as follows:

The 19th Century British Library Newspapers collection contains full runs of 48 newspapers specially selected by the British Library and includes national and regional newspapers, as well as those from both established country, university towns or new industrial towns in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. The collection includes newspapers that helped lead particular political or social movements such as the Reform movement, Chartism, and the Home Rule movement. So-called ‘penny papers’ aimed at the working and clerical classes are also present in the collection.

EBSCOhost platform: access problems resolved

Problems affecting access to databases on the EBSCOhost platform reported yesterday were resolved later the same day. Access to these resources (and remote and meta-searching functionality) is again available in eSearch.

Land, Life and Leisure: access problems resolved

Hardware problems which have caused recurrent breaks in access to the Land, Life and Leisure service over the past few days are now reported as resolved by EDINA. Access is once again available through eSearch.

Ebsco hosted services unavailable

A technical problem with the Ebsco hosted services means that the following are unavailable:

  • Academic Search Elite
  • Business Source Premier
  • Econlit
  • PsycARTICLES
  • PsycINFO
  • SportDiscus
  • TTI (Textile Technology Index)

Ebsco are investigating and hope to get service resumed as soon as possible. We’ll update you again when we have more news.

New resources: JISC e-Book Observatory Project

Access to an initial set of 26 eBooks made available through the JISC e-Book Observatory Project has now been enabled in the Library Catalogue. Access to these titles, which are provided through the MyiLibrary platform, is by Athens username and password.

New resource: House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (HCPP) – 19th Century

Access to the House of Commons Parliamentary Papers (HCPP) – 19th Century collection has been set up in eSearch. Access is direct on-campus; off-campus access (via Athens username and password) will be available shortly. The resource is described as follows:

House of Commons Parliamentary Papers offers page facsimiles, searchable full text and a detailed subject catalogue of House of Commons sessional papers and supplementary material from 1801 to 1900. The materials includes Parliamentary Bills, House Papers and Command Papers. HCCP does not include debates (Hansard), the House of Commons Journal, or daily business papers, such as Order papers and Votes and Proceedings.

New resources: Equis and Canis – accessible via standalone PCs at Brackenhurst

Access to the veterinary databases Equis and Canis has been set up on two standalone PCs in Resource Room B on the Brackenhurst campus. These resources have been set up as single-user standalone resources as it is not currently possible to provide institution-wide networked access for them. When a customer logs on to the relevant PC, a shortcut link to the resource and to a walkthrough how-to guide will be accessible directly from the desktop. Access to each resource is by a specific username and password (which is contained in the secured walkthrough guide). Entries for both resources have been added to eSearch (without a clickthrough link, but with location and access details).

Canis is described as follows:

Canis provides up-to-date canine specific clinical information for people working in the veterinary profession. It is possible to search by keyword, browse by topic or look up specific drug therapies. Content is provided in a concise, easy–to–use format and is enhanced with comprehensive cross–linking of related content, diagnostic images and sounds. Browsing by topic provides a link to the latest published research in PubMed and suggests related websites. There is also a collection of owner factsheets specifically written for owners to aid their understanding of various conditions and veterinary procedures.

Equis is described as follows:

Equis provides up-to-date equine specific clinical information for people working in the veterinary profession. It is possible to search by keyword, browse by topic or look up specific drug therapies. Content is provided in a concise, easy–to–use format and is enhanced with comprehensive cross–linking of related content, diagnostic images and sounds. Browsing by topic provides a link to the latest published research in PubMed and suggests related websites. There is also a collection of owner factsheets specifically written for owners to aid their understanding of various conditions and veterinary procedures.

Land of Lost Content – domain change

Links in eSearch to the Land of Lost Content collection have now been updated to resolve directly to the educational version of the interface. The LOLC registration guide and description have both been revised as part of this change.

Bridgeman Education – off-campus access now available

Access to the Bridgeman Education art library is now available off-campus via NTU domain, username and password. Links and prompts in eSearch have been updated accordingly.

British Library Archival Sound Recordings – content updated

Additional sound recordings are now available for streaming and download in the British Library Archival Sound Recordings collection. Details of the expanded collection can be found here: http://sounds.bl.uk/Default.aspx.
