Resource unavailable: Land, Life and Leisure

EDINA reported this morning that the Land, Life and Leisure database is currently unavailable due to recurring hardware problems. A further update will be provided once access to the service has been restored.

New resource: Gartner

The Gartner database service has been added to eSearch, and linked to the Computing and Technology Sub-Categories. Access to the resource on- and off-campus is by NTU domain, username and password. The resource is described as follows:

Gartner is an information and technology research and advisory firm with a world-wide focus. It provides research analyses, predictions, reports, briefings and a wide variety of other materials for IT professionals and specialists working in all information and technology fields. The site includes ‘Research Fast Finder’ materials organised by markets, topics and industries; research methodology tools; blogs and podcasts; and provides information about the company’s consultancy, conferencing and training opportunities and initiatives.

This resource has been licensed for the university by Information Systems.

isurv – new platform and authentication methods

The isurv service has migrated to a new, updated platform (which includes the 2008 edition of the ‘Red Book’), and links in eSearch have been updated accordingly. On-campus access to isurv (which was previously by specific username and password) is now direct; off-campus access (by NTU domain, username and password) will be available shortly. The previous entry for isurv on the ‘Other Passwords’ page is therefore now redundant and will be withdrawn shortly.

Access to Emerald Fulltext on a go-slow

Emerald Insight are carrying out server maintenance which means that we’re experiencing slow response times when accessing the Emerald Fulltext database, particularly when trying to open PDF or HTML documents (the delay can be as long as 5+ minutes). Hopefully normal service will be restored shortly, but I will let you know when Emerald report that their work is completed.

British Standards Online – access restored

Access to British Standards Online has been restored, with links in eSearch updated to reflect the migration to the new BSOL platform. Access on-campus and off-campus is by Athens username and password.

Verdict Research – new platform

Access to the Verdict Research reports has been migrated to the Business Insights platform and links and guidance notes in eSearch have been updated accordingly. Access is direct on-campus and off-campus access is via NTU domain, username and password. NTU has access to a restricted number of reports in the Verdict Research collection (each indicated by the green ‘open book’ icon) although it is hoped that it will soon be possible to extend the number of reports available.

British Standards Online – access problems

Following the migration of the British Standards Online service to a new domain and platform, Athens authenticated access to the service has ceased to operate for the majority of educational customers of the service. BSI hope to have a resolution for this problem by Tuesday-Wednesday of this week.

In the meantime, BSI have provided LLR with a temporary username and password which will allow staff and students to continue to access the service on the old platform.

To use these temporary credentials:

  1. Contact eServices for the temporary username and password
  2. Access British Standards Online via eSearch as normal
  3. From the list of links in the ‘Navigate’ section on the left-hand side of the BSI home page, select Login
  4. Enter the username
  5. Enter the password

Once Athens authentication is working normally, links in eSearch will be updated to direct customers to the new platform.

Linguistics Abstracts Online – currently unavailable

Access to Linguistics Abstracts Online is currently unavailable, awaiting a response from the service providers to a set of subscription entitlement queries. It it hoped to be able to reinstate access to the service later this week.

Nexis UK and SFX

The SFX Knowledge Base has been updated to ensure that all newspapers and electronic journals that were previously individually listed on the Lexis Nexis Executive platform now redirect to Nexis UK. As all of the European Lexis platforms are still not yet OpenURL compliant, all of the title links only resolve the customer to the ‘homepage’ of the platform.

Westlaw and SFX

SFX links to UK Legal Journals provided through Westlaw have not yet been migrated to the new Westlaw platform but currently continue to point at the previous online version of the resource. Westlaw have yet to release the new deep-linking syntax required to support journal level linking on the new platform but have indicated that this should be available in the next few weeks. As soon as this linking syntax is available, the connections will be updated. (SFX integration with Westlaw is the product of work by the customer community in the UK rather than directly by Ex Libris so there is more scripting and configuration work required of each local site).
