ESpacenet: details updated

The name and of the service previously listed in Library OneSearch as ‘esp@cenet’ has been updated to reflect its current name: ESpacenet. The resource, openly accessible on-campus and off-campus:

offers the general public free access to worldwide patent information via the internet. It has the following main aims: to offer basic patent information to individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises, students etc; to increase awareness and use of patent information at the national and European levels; to support innovation, reduce wastage in the innovation cycle; and to supplement existing channels for the dissemination of patent information

The access URL for this service has also been updated.

Withdrawn resource: FORS (Forensic Science Service)

The entry for FORS (the Forensic Science Service) has been withdrawn from the list of databases available in Library OneSearch.

Since the withdrawal of funding from FORS it has no longer been accessible, and it has been listed in LOS as a withdrawn resource (alerting staff and students to the fact it was no longer available). FORS has now been withdrawn completely from LOS, and is no longer listed.

IHS databases: access temporarily unavailable

Access to the IHS databases OHSIS [Occupational Health and Safety Informmation Service], Lacors and CIS [Construction Information Service] is currently unavailable in Library OneSearch, following a technical failure on the IHS platform.

Access is normally direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus, but access requests for both routes currently resolve to the error message: ‘Unable to validate your IP address’

IHS’s technicians are working to resolve the problem, and in the meantime have provided a temporary access URL for Notttingham Trent University, details of which are available on request. (As this specially formatted URL grants access to anyone clicking on it, LLR cannot publish details on the openly accessible LLR site or in Library OneSearch.)

A further update will follow once it has been confirmed that this issue has been resolved.

New resource: Ethical Fashion Forum (Source)

Access to the Ethical Fashion Forum (Source) database has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Authentication on-campus and off-campus is by a resource-specific username and password (available on the secure Other Passwords page of the LLR web site). The resource is described as follows:

The Ethical Fashion Foundation (EFF) is the industry body for sustainable fashion. The Ethical Fashion Forum provides access to SOURCE: The Global Platform for Sustainable Fashion, which consists of three databases: The SOURCE Database, which lists businesses involved in sustainable fashion; SOURCE Intelligence, which provides information and market updates via a magazine; and The SOURCE Expo, a trade show on international ethical sourcing.

The School of Art and Design has subscribed to Ethical Fashion Forum as a College Fellow (rather than the subscription being paid directly from LLR’s resource budget). The initial subscription period runs until 29 October 2013.

IRep: new search option refinements

New search option refinements are now live in IRep, in both Simple and Advanced search.

In Simple search, a new ‘Search in fields’ option offers the choice of the following search restrictions:

  • Descriptors only (the entire of the metadata fields available, excluding the full-text index)
  • Full-text only (only the full-text; not the metadata fields)
  • Descriptors and full-text (all metadata fields; and all full-text)
New IRep search options - drop-down
New IRep search options – drop-down
New IRep search options
New IRep search options

In Advanced search, these new field options are offered alongside the previously available field options (Creator, Date, Title, Type and School).

Science Direct: issue affecting direct export to RefWorks – resolved

The issue affecting the direct export of references from Science Direct to RefWorks reported on 23 January 2013 has now been resolved. It is again possible to successfully export groups of references through repeated requests during the same RefWorks’ session without the need to login afresh.

Verdict Reports (MarketLine): access removed from Library OneSearch

The entry for Verdict Reports (via the MarketLine platform) has once again been removed from Library OneSearch following the conclusion of the current access period to the resource. A future update will follow as and when LLR’s future subscription arrangements with the Verdict service are confirmed.

Science Direct: issue affecting direct export to RefWorks

The RefWorks technical team are working to resolve a problem which is affecting the ‘RefWorks Direct Export’ service from Science Direct (SciVerse).

For the first direct export request from a Science Direct session, a new pop-up windows resolves to the RefWorks login screen. After selecting ‘Nottingham Trent University’ from the drop-down list of institutions and logging in with a university username and password, the export to RefWorks succeeds and the Last Imported folder is populated with the newly imported records.

However, subsequent RefWorks direct export requests attempted during the same session resolve to the logged-in user’s RefWorks account without the newly exported records being imported into RefWorks.

RefWorks do not have, at present, a timeline for the correction of this problem, but are actively working on a fix.

In the meantime, a simple workaround provides a temporary solution to the problem.

  • After the first Science Direct export has completed successfully in RefWorks, select the Log out option in RefWorks to end the current RefWorks session
  • For subsequent export requests from Science Direct in the same session, the browser will then be directed back to the RefWorks login screen
  • Once the user has selected ‘Nottingham Trent University’ from the drop-down list, they should be resolved to RefWorks as a logged-in user (because their Shibboleth session is still active in their browser, they should not be required to log in again) and the export request should complete successfully

A further update will follow once this issue has been satisfactorily resolved and this workaround is no longer necessary.

Verdict Reports – restored in Find a Database in Library OneSearch

A fresh period of temporary access to Verdict Reports through the MarketLine service has now been agreed, pending finalised subscription and licencing agreements.

Access to Verdict Reports has therefore been re-enabled through the Find Databases option in Library OneSearch.

Verdict Reports – removed from Find a Database in Library OneSearch

The period of temporary access to Verdict Reports provided through the MarketLine service has now expired, and as a result access to Verdict Reports has been suspended in Library OneSearch, pending new subscription arrangements.

A further update will follow as-and-when access to Verdict Reports is restored and re-enabled in Library OneSearch.

eBrary Patron Driven Acquisition (PDA) titles – request option reactivated

The issue preventing the purchase of eBrary PDA titles, reported on 12 December 2012, has now been resolved.

Purchase requests for PDA titles on the eBrary platform are now being accepted normally in line with the configuration of the PDA plan and profile.

Studies on Women and Gender Abstracts: linking change

Access details for the Studies on Women and Gender Abstracts service have been updated in Library OneSearch, to deep-link direct to the appropriate section of the Taylor and Francis site. Access remains direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.
