SFX linking to Academic Search Elite

Some connections from SFX to ejournal titles hosted in the Academic Search Elite database are currently generating error messages. If you encounter any problems connecting to ASE hosted titles (or to any other titles on the EBSCO platform), please send eServices a screen-grab and details of the failed citation to assist with debugging.

Access to Oxford University Press ejournals

OUP have reported that they are experiencing problems with full-text access to some of their ejournal titles. Selective testing has not identified any issues with sample titles from our subscription profile, but please advise eServices is you encounter any difficulties with OUP titles online.

Silverplatter downtime Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 December

Maintenance work on the ARC platform (used by Silverplatter) over the coming weekend means that there will be no access to the following databases on either Saturday or Sunday: OSH-ROM, Geography and ICONDA. Access to the Silveplatter-ARC versions of IBSS and BIOSIS will also be unavailable, but we provide prefered access to both these resources on the OVID platform, where service will continue uninterrupted. I will update on the status of these resources on Monday.

Trial ended: Computing Reviews

Trial access to Computing Reviews has now ended, and the listing for the resource has been withdrawn from eSearch. Any remaining feedback on the service should be passed to Ian Rogers.

BCIS (Building Cost Information Service): pop-up blocker problem resolution

Colleagues in IS have been working with us to resolve the pop-up blocker problem which was preventing access to the BCIS database from on-campus workstations under the new Windows XP student image. This solution has been tested on a number of library workstations and appears to be working effectively. The resource prompts for BCIS have been updated accordingly:

04 December 2006: Access to BCIS should now be available again from all on-campus workstations. Please ensure that your browser’s pop-up blocker is switched off when attempting access. If you continue to experience problems, please contact the User Support Team.
Please let me have the details of any instances where the problem appears to be persisting. (In the first instance, please restart the workstation involved – to ensure that it has picked up the new config settings).

LLR has previously had a subscription which only allowed two customers to access BCIS at any one time. A revised agreement which will increase our simultaneous user level to 99 is in process – I will advise when this has been completed. Additionally, negotiations are currently continuing with BCIS to enable off-campus access to the service.
