New resource: Greenleaf Sustainable Organization Library (SOL)

Access to the Greenleaf Sustainable Organization Library (SOL), provided through the IngentaConnect platform, has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Access is direct on-campus, and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

The Greenleaf Sustainable Organization Library (SOL) is an online library of books and journal issues focused on sustainability and social responsibility, drawn from a number of partner publishers including Greenleaf Publishing, Practical Action Publishing and Peter Lang. The SOL contains approximately 380 volumes (books, journal themed issues and journal issues) and 5500 papers.

Individual records for the 260+ eBook titles in the collection have been added to the main index of Library OneSearch. Each record contains a deep-link to the title level, which will authenticate and resolve from both on-campus and off-campus locations. Additional eBook records will by added to LOS as the number of titles in the collection increases.

Titles within the collection include:
Spirituality and business: a Christian viewpoint; Entrepreneurial communications; and Professional ethics.

New resource: TransportXtra

Access to the TransportXtra service has been enabled in the Find Databases option of Library OneSearch. Access is direct on-campus; off-campus access is not currently available. Visitors must create a free account with TransportXtra on their first visit, using their NTU email address and password of their own choosing.

The resource is described as follows:

TransportXtra.com is a transport research service aimed at professionals across the sector. It offers news and archive content from the leading passenger transport, planning, policy making and modelling trade press, as well as extensive report libraries and directories.

New resource: IDS Online (Incomes Data Services)

Access to the IDS Online service (from Incomes Data Services) is now available in Library OneSearch. Access is direct on-campus. Off-campus access is not currently available, but it should be possible to enable off-campus access shortly. The resource is described as follows:

IDS Online is an independent research organisation providing information and analysis in key areas across the employment field. IDS’ research services have been used by businesses, government, trade unions and tribunals for over 45 years. Access to news, information and research in four module areas is available: HR in practice; employment law; pay and reward; and, executive compensation.

New resource: Scopus

Access to Scopus has been enabled in Library OneSearch. Access. is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

Scopus is a large and continually updated abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed academic content in the fields of Life Sciences (4,000+ titles), Physical Sciences (7,000+), Health Sciences (6,000+) and Social Sciences and Humanities (5,000+). Not a full-text resources in itself, Scopus provides outbound links to full-text services on other platforms, where these are available. Scopus provides a range of tools to tracks trends, patterns and citation and research impact. For all articles published since 1996, also Scopus provides full details of the references used

New resource: Brill journals archive

Access to the Brill Journals Archive has been enabled in SFX.

Brill Journal Archive Online provides access to over fifty thousand articles from more 174 journals published by Brill from their first issue up until 2009.

The twin components of the collection “have been purchased in perpetuity by JISC Collections and are available free of charge to UK Higher and Further Education institutions and Research Councils” which sign the necessary licence.

All 174 titles from the Brill journals archive will be indexed and made available in Library OneSearch later this week.

New resource: JISC Historic Books

Alongside the JISC MediaHub, the JISC e-Collections service also provides access to the JISC Historic Books collection (and the JISC Journal Archive – see separate post). Access to JISC Historic eBooks is by university username and password from on-campus and off-campus. The resource is described as follows:

The JISC Historic Book collection provides access, through a single search interface, to the libraries of the British Library 19th Century eBook collection, ECCO (Eighteenth Century Collections Online) and EEBO (Early English Books Online). Each collection can be searched separately or in combination.

ECCO (Eighteenth Century Collections Online) features 150,000 printed volumes — English-language and foreign-language titles printed in the United Kingdom, along with thousands of important works from the Americas, with full-text search capabilities across all 26 million pages.

EEBO (Early English Books Online) contains digital facsimile page images of virtually every work printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and British North America and works in English printed elsewhere from 1473-1700. EEBO gives users access to a huge range of primary resources, including many important literary and historical texts.

The British Library 19th Century eBook collection provides access to more than 25 million pages across discplines including philosophy, history, poetry and literature, with the original typeface, illustrations and fold-out pages for each book. Many rare or inaccessible books published between 1789 and 1914 are now digital, discoverable and searchable for the first time.

At present, individual eBook records from the JISC Historic Books collection are not made available by JISC but may be provided in future.

ESpacenet: details updated

The name and of the service previously listed in Library OneSearch as ‘esp@cenet’ has been updated to reflect its current name: ESpacenet. The resource, openly accessible on-campus and off-campus:

offers the general public free access to worldwide patent information via the internet. It has the following main aims: to offer basic patent information to individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises, students etc; to increase awareness and use of patent information at the national and European levels; to support innovation, reduce wastage in the innovation cycle; and to supplement existing channels for the dissemination of patent information

The access URL for this service has also been updated.

IRep: new search option refinements

New search option refinements are now live in IRep, in both Simple and Advanced search.

In Simple search, a new ‘Search in fields’ option offers the choice of the following search restrictions:

  • Descriptors only (the entire of the metadata fields available, excluding the full-text index)
  • Full-text only (only the full-text; not the metadata fields)
  • Descriptors and full-text (all metadata fields; and all full-text)

In Advanced search, these new field options are offered alongside the previously available field options (Creator, Date, Title, Type and School).

Palgrave Political & International Studies eBook collection 2012

A total of 183 eBook titles from the ‘Palgrave Political & International Studies collection 2012’ are now available in Library OneSearch.

LLR has been working extensively with Palgrave to generate title-level deep-links for the eBook records in the collection which will work for both on-campus and off-campus requests; and a working solution is now in place. (The format of these links may change in future, but the records themselves will persist with their current LMS identifiers). Access to all titles is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.

Example entries the new collection include American military intervention in unconventional war; Understanding collective political violence; The future of entrepreneurship in Latin America; and Authoritarian party structures and democratic political setting in Turkey.

As well as providing online and downloadable .pdf formats for all titles, selected eBooks from Palgrave Connect are available for download/upload to a range of eBook readers in the EPUB format. Palgrave Connect employs “permissive DRM, enabling users in subscribing institutions to download ebook content without any physical restrictions”. New resource: WGSN (World Global Style Network)

Access to the new WGSN.com service has been enabled in eSearch. Access is by a resource-specific username and password, held on the secure ‘Other Passwords’ page of the LLR web site. The resource is described as follows:

WGSN.com is an online news and information service for the international fashion, apparel, and interiors industries. It is updated every day, covers all aspects of the fashion and apparel trade, and provides trend prediction services 18 months in advance of the current season, plus information about visual merchandising, graphics, trade shows, and materials.

BIOSIS Previews – access configuration updated

An issue preventing some access requests to BIOSIS Previews in eSearch from resolving correctly has now been corrected. All requests to BIOSIS Previews now resolve appropriately to the Web of Knowledge portal. Remote and metasearching of BIOSIS Previews is also now working consistently in eSearch.
