SFX Inter-Library Loan requests now through Library Catalogue

Inter-Library Loan requests sent from the SFX (Find it @ NTU) service (see illustration below) are now submitted through the My Library Card section of the Library Catalogue.

When a customer clicks on this service in the SFX menu, they will be resolved to the Log in to My Library Card page of the Library Catalogue (unless they already have an active catalogue session running). Once their login has been accepted, the customer can select the My Library Card and then the Inter-Library Loans options to complete their request using the online form.

At present, SFX does not auto-populate the online form with the bibliographic data (as was the case previously with the ILLOS service). A refinement to SFX being released by Ex Libris in February is expected to reinstate this functionality.

Network access to external web resources: IS report problem resolved

IS has confirmed that the network problems affecting on-campus access to external web resources (reported on 3 December and 10 December) have been resolved, following the implementation of several network management changes. Please report to Lib eServices details of any instances where remote access problems continue or reoccur.

Newton: solution agreed to secure on-campus

eServices have been able to agree with IS new configuration arrangements which will re-enable IP authentication from PCs in the newly re-opened Newton building. The solution requires LLR to register additional IP information with all providers offering IP-based authentication. While this work is being urgently undertaken, it is likely that the re-registration process will not be fully completed until the new year. The advice to NTU staff and students attempting to access electronic resources from locations within Newton continue to be to use the eSearch, SFX and Library Catalogue access routes to these resources (rather than using any previously stored bookmarks). This will ensure that such requests are automatically routed to the appropriate off-campus login screens (wherever necessary) on which staff can login in exactly the same ways as if they were off-site.

European Business ASAP – SFX connection problem resolved

A technical issue which was causing SFX links to ejournal content on the European Business ASAP platform to fail has been corrected. All links (from journal to individual article level) are now resolving normally once again.

Continuing problems with on-campus access to external web resources

Technical issues affecting on-campus access to external web resources, previously reported on 3 December, are continuing to cause significant intermittent problems. As IS’s attempts to isolate the cause of the technical difficulties continue, the advice from eServices remains unchanged:

“If you encounter problems with accessing external web sites, please report details of the issue to the eServices team for us to investigate. We may be able to suggest an alternative means of access to the resource, and will also need to confirm that the problem you are reporting is not caused by an unrelated service issue.”

Now resolved – campus wide user authentication problems

IS have now fixed the user authentication problems that were affecting services campus wide. So all services that use Shibboleth or ADS authentication, such as NOW, ‘My Library Card’ in Web OPAC, eSearch and RefWorks, are working again.

However, if you do discover any further problems, then please let eServices know.

Major problems with user authentication campus wide

We are experiencing major problems with University username and password authentication. This is affecting access to all services that use Shibboleth or ADS authentication, such as NOW, ‘My Library Card’ in Web OPAC, eSearch and RefWorks. IS are currently investigating the problem.

In the meantime, these services are unavailable.

A further update will follow once there is more news to report from IS.

Library Catalogue – SFX, eSearch and other search connections

The LLR web site and NOW Library Catalogue search widgets have been confirmed as retrieving results from the upgraded v.20 of ALEPH on its new sever. Search connections from eSearch and SFX are also now configured to connect correctly, as do remote searches from RefWorks, Ulrich’s, Journal Citation Reports and a number of other external services.

SFX direct export to RefWorks

A technical problem preventing the direct export of the metadata of an SFX result to RefWorks has now been resolved. The export facility is now working normally again.

SFX (Find it @ NTU) menu links to the Library Catalogue

Following a series of database and software updates to the SFX (Find it @ NTU) service, which were deployed yesterday afternoon, links to the Library Catalogue from the SFX menu were no longer appearing consistently.

The problem which was affecting the display of the various Library Catalogue options has now been resolved, and all links are now displaying as intended.

Emerald – Shibboleth authentication

Off-campus access to the Emerald platform is now by university username and password (using the Shibboleth framework). Links and prompts in eSearch and SFX have been updated accordingly.

A guide to Shibboleth authentication on the Emerald platform has been added to the eServices Support wiki.

Members of relevant Delegated Centres and NTU Alumni will continue to use an Athens username and password to access the Emerald service.

Engineering Village – SFX (‘Find it @ NTU’) links

On the Engineering Village platform (through which LLR provides access to the Inspec and Compendex services) a configuration problem had been leading to the display of two SFX (‘Find it @ NTU’) buttons in the Full Record and Abstract view of search results. This problem has now been resolved, and only the single, correctly-configured, SFX button displays (see illustration below).
