Upgraded resource: BFI Player

THE LIBRARY HAS upgraded the level of access to the streaming film services provided by the British Film Institute’s BFI Player to include subscription-only material in addition to the free-to-view content that was already available.

The Find Databases listing for the BFI Player has been updated accordingly:

BFI Player is a video-on-demand service from the British Film Institute, streaming acclaimed landmark and archive films from Britain and Europe as well as international releases and film collections including BFI Flare LGBTQIA+, Visionary Directors and Black Stories. Nottingham Trent University students and staff can register an account which will allow them to watch content in the subscription as well as the free collections. Please note, rentals and festival events are not included in the subscription offer. BFI Player is unavailable outside the UK.

Nottingham Trent University staff and students will need to register for a BFI account and then associate that account with their university account to gain access to the subscription content. An illustrated walkthrough of the registration and sign-in process is provided on the new Registration Guide accessed through the Find Databases listing for the resource.

New resource: Bates’ Visual Guide to Physical Examination

Detail from the launch page of Bates' Visual Guide to Physical Examination

ACCESS TO BATES’ Visual Guide to Physical Examination has been enabled in a new listing in the Find Databases service.

Authentication to the Bates’ platform is by university username and password, on-campus and off-campus.

The resource is described as follows:

Bates’ Visual Guide to Physical Examination delivers new clinical skills videos featuring head-to-toe and systems-based physical examination techniques, as well as OSCE clinical reasoning modules. Based on Bates’ Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking, this online guide maintains the evidence-based origins of the text and cover the same range of patient types profiled in the series.

This resource was previously made temporarily available in the Spring of 2020 as one of the additional electronic resources provided during the restrictions of the Covid pandemic.

Box of Broadcasts – scheduled maintenance – Monday 11 July 2022

RESOLVED – Kanopy video streaming access issues

THE TECHNICAL ISSUES that were preventing authenticated access to Kanopy (reported on 16 June) have now been resolved.

Access to the platform is now available once again through the Find Databases service.

Passport off-campus access issues

Off-campus institutional log in attempts to Passport are currently resulting in a ‘Bad Request’ error page.

We are working with EuroMonitor support to try and resolve this issue.

On campus access remains unaffected.

UPDATE, 5 July 2022: Affected users should try clearing their browser’s cookies, cache and data to force a new authentication session for this database which should then work.

Kanopy video streaming access issues

The library is currently investigating reports of access issues, both on and off campus, for the Kanopy video streaming service.

Log in to Kanopy via the ‘NTUUK’ option is currently leading to an ‘Identity Provider – Unsupported Request’ error message. The problem has been escalated to the supplier.

Following a platform change, EG Radius, formerly known as Estates Gazette Interactive, requires any users with an existing account to verify their registered NTU email address to continue using the service.

Previously registered NTU users can either follow the ‘How to guide’ links in the NTU Find Databases page or follow the prompts from the EG Login page.

RESOLVED: Elsevier off-campus access issues

RefWorks: account access issues

RefWorks logo (RefWorks v3)

THE LIBRARY IS working with colleagues in Digital Technologies and the technical support team at RefWorks to reinstate access to version 3 of the RefWorks platform – which is currently unavailable for existing account holders.

At present, attempts to log in to RefWorks v3 resolve to a ‘Start using RefWorks’ page (see illustration below). This is not expected behaviour, and existing users will not be able to complete the ‘one-time reassociation’ process and will find themselves stuck in a loop.

The issue has been logged with RefWorks Support as an urgent case, and an update will follow once access has been reinstated.

Access to the legacy RefWorks v2 platform is currently unaffected.

UPDATE, 27 May 2022: Affected staff and students can reset their RefWorks account (in order to log in successfully using their university username and password) by following these instructions.

RESOLVED: Shibboleth and eZproxy authentication issues

THE ISSUES AFFECTING authenticated access to some front-facing library services and platforms (reported earlier today) have now been resolved.

Access to all publisher sites and resources reliant on eZproxy authentication for off-campus access has been reinstated. Authenticated access to the Worktribe research management application is also available once again.
