Platform update: Taylor and Francis online

Taylor and Francis have recently launched a new integrated content platform. Access remains direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus. Among a number of enhancements, the upgrade ensures that the platform makes use of ‘responsive’ design techniques to render full-text content to best effect on tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices as well as to the desktop. No changes are have been introduced to the linking syntax on the platform, so deep-link access is unaffected. The library’s customisation features on the new platform have been reviewed and updated.

Taylor and Francis summarise the benefits of the new platform as follows –

  • Intuitive and readable article layout: A new article display organises figures & data, references, citations and article statistics into tabs, plus highlights reader’s access options and the article PDF.
  • Enhanced discoverability: The multi-faceted search makes finding articles and journals simpler and faster, with options to filter by subject, publication date, and access options.
  • Prominent journal branding: Making it easy for readers to identify and access key journals. Journal titles and covers are elevated and Journal pages display related and key content using a streamlined and easy to read new “card” design.
  • A fully responsive design: No matter where in the world the reader is, whether they’re on a mobile device, tablet or computer, they can get straight to the research they need, read it, bookmark it, and download it to their library.

New platform: Cambridge Core

Cambridge University Press has launched the new Cambridge Core platform, an integrated service offering access to eBook and eJournal content from CUP. As with the previous CUP web site, access to subscription content is direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.

The library’s access to the new platform has been customised: including basic branding, Shibboleth integration and outbound SFX OpenURL linking. Existing links to content on the old CUP platform is automatically redirected to Cambridge Core, including links through SFX. As new Knowledge Base data is made available, all content information in SFX will be updated, but there will be no interruption in access to subscription content from CUP during the remaining steps in the migration.

New resource: Insurance Companies Worldwide

The ISIS (Insurance Companies Worldwide) database from Bureau Van Dijk is now available through the Find Databases service of Library OneSearch. On-campus access is direct; off-campus access is not currently available. The resource is described as follows:

ISIS has accounts (in both “as reported” and standardised formats), ratios, credit ratings, stock data and ownership for more than 12,000 insurance companies around the world. Credit ratings are from AM Best and Moody’s and M&A deals and rumours are also included. Original filing documents can be viewed, you can create graphs from the data and also receive information alerts.

IOP Concise Physics and Expanding Physics eBook collections – new titles

An additional 38 eBooks from Release 2 of the Institute of Physics Concise Physics and Expanding Physics eBook collections are now discoverable in Library OneSearch. As with the other titles in the collection, access is by university username and password. New titles include:

Sage Knowledge eBook Collection: accessible again

Following the interruption in access on the Sage Knowledge eBook Collection reported yesterday, Sage has restored the access to the 4,300 eBook titles in the library’s collection. Access to all subscribed titles in the collection is once again direct on-campus, and by university username and password from off-campus.

The Sage Knowledge platform has improved the handling of deep-linking through institutional login since the library first provided a walkthrough of each step of the process in March 2015. The revised off-campus login process is now as follows:

In the top-right hand corner of the screen, click on the Institution button (see illustration below):

Sage Knowledge eBook platform - off-campus login - March 2016 - step one

In the pop-up that then loads, do not enter your username or password in the ‘Institutional Login’ boxes, but instead click on the Shibboleth link in the ‘Other Login Options’ section (see illustration below):

Sage Knowledge eBook platform - off-campus login - March 2016 - step two

On the ‘Shibboleth Login’ page that then loads, select Nottingham Trent University from the drop-down list, to direct the browser to the ‘NTU Single Sign-on’ page (see illustration below).

Sage Knowledge eBook platform - off-campus login - March 2016 - step three

After logging in successfully, your browser will be returned to the Sage Knowledge eBook platform; and to the same page on which your login request began: in other words, deep-linking to the eBook title level (which was not previously supported for off-campus visitors) now works first time.

Sage Knowledge eBook Collection: access currently unavailable

Access to all 4,300 eBook titles in the library’s Sage Knowledge eBook Collection is currently unavailable due to administrative problems affecting the Sage Knowledge platform.

At present, links from Sage Knowledge eBook titles in Library OneSearch resolve to the Sage Knowledge home page; while searches on the Sage Knowledge platform return results lists in which none of the titles are accessible in full-text.

The library is working with Sage to restore access to these titles as soon as possible, and a further update will follow once access has been restored.

The library is able to provide authentication-aware, title-level deep-links to each eBook in the collection. Be aware that the IoP platform briefly displays two update screens to the requester as the login process proceeds. The second (see illustration below) displays while the IoP platform redirects the authenticated requester to the eBook title. No additional login steps are required while these screens display. Once you have an active NTU Single Sign-on session running, you may still see these update screens whilst requesting subsequent IoP eBook titles (although no repeat login will be required).

Digital National Security Archive (DNSA) migration to the ProQuest platform

DNSA - ProQuest - 2015

Access to the Digital National Security Archive (DNSA) has been migrated from the legacy Chadwyck-Healey platform to the current main ProQuest platform in Library OneSearch. All links in LOS have been updated, and access is now direct on-campus and by university username and password from off-campus.

The database can now be searched separately or alongside other databases on the search.proquest.com platform.
